General Dentistry

General Dentistry Services

Outside of our dental office, it is your responsibility to take care of your smile. However, we will ensure that you have the tools and the knowledge to do so successfully! Don’t overlook the importance of routine dental care; it can make a big difference in your smile! Simple tasks like teeth cleaning in Reilly & Siegel Family Dental go a long way. Visit Cornerstone Dental of Reilly & Siegel Family Dental for the following general dentistry services.

Preventative Care

While our patients benefit greatly from regular 6 month dental cleanings and checkups, a strong oral health care routine is truly the first line of defense to combat decay, infection, and periodontal disease. Our Hygienists take special care to ensure that each of our patients is educated on the proper way to care for his or her teeth at home. A good oral health routine includes daily brushing, flossing, use of an ADA-approved mouthwash, and a healthy diet. When you arrive for an initial or hygiene appointment, our hygienist and dentist will work with you to develop an oral health care routine customized to suit your unique oral needs.

Emergency Treatment

Unfortunately, the occasion does happen that a tooth breaks, fractures, or has a cavity that has been left untreated. This can be extremely painful! Emergency dentistry is treatment that is meant to relieve pain and suffering. In some instances, a tooth may be unrestorable and will require an extraction. In other cases, the tooth may be restored and a root canal would be an efficient treatment. Our office is prepared to render both extractions and root canals to alleviate dental pain.

Sealants

A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the deep groves and pits of adult molars and premolars. More than 75% of dental decay (cavities) begins in these deep groves. Teeth with these conditions are difficult to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep groves creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. Sealants can protect the chewing surfaces of teeth for many years, but need to be checked at regular visits for wear and chipping.

Tooth-Colored Restorations (Composite, Bonded Fillings)

When a tooth is damaged due to decay or injury, a restoration is typically needed to restore health and function to the tooth. Unlike traditional metal restorations that are noticeable, such as gold or silver crowns and amalgam filings, tooth-colored restorations are especially placed in anterior (front teeth) to blend in with surrounding teeth for a completely natural-looking appearance.

Endodontic Care (Root Canal)

Root canal therapy, or endodontic treatment, consists of the removal of inflamed or infected pulp tissue (dental nerve) and the cleansing and sealing of the internal tooth structure. Root canal treatment may be necessary in cases where there is advanced decay, trauma to the tooth, periodontal disease, bruxism (teeth grinding) or cracked teeth. Once the infected tooth pulp is removed, one of our dentists will restore and protect the damaged tooth, (usually with a crown), to enhance a healthy and beautiful smile for many years to come.

Recommended placement Time:

Children and Teenagers: As soon as the six-year molars (the first permanent back teeth) appear, or any time throughout the cavity prone years 6-18.
